We experience the pleasure and bonding of the domestic cat’s thankyou kiss a lot or we should if we are in a good relationship with our cat companion. We stroke and kiss our cat and they lick our hand and come into contact with us for warmth and friendship (which included scent exchange).
The cat’s thankyou kiss is not a kiss but allogrooming – the grooming of one cat by another. But it is as near as the cat can get to the human kiss. It is founded on functionality which is nice whereas the kiss is not.
I think the cat kiss is better than the human version! 😱
I suspect that sometimes cat owners are not too keen on receiving the feline kiss partly because the cat’s tongue is rough with backward facing keratin spines and they can go on and on until the skin is sore! Just one of those little points of friction between human and cat that needs to be tolerated although removing the hand gently and respectfully is perfectly okay 💕😎.
