The true story of the extinction of New Zealand’s Stephens Island Wren by feral cats — 2 Comments

  1. This is a good piece Michael, I think showing the broader context of the Wren’s extinction, really shows what a mess we have made of the world and how ignorance feeds prejudice aainst the domestic cat.

It is ethically & morally wrong to blame cats for the destruction of any species.

Humans created the domestic cat, we are responsible for all the species we have domesticated as well as the duty to protect the wild species.

We as a species have pretty much screwed up every one of our domesticated species, either by ridiculously bad husbandry or totally irresponsible stewardship.

As a species we are ultimately responsible for the extinction of more species than any domesticated species such as the cat

Humans don’t like examining their own actions, humans are generally, en masse, moral cowards. It is easier for moral cowards to bully one species who has no right of reply.

    Happy New Year!
