Sphynx crinkled or wrinkly skin on top of head

Does anyone know the reason why hairless purebred cats have wrinkly skin? Is there a medical reason? Is it because the skin is exposed to the elements which dries the skin out and makes it wrinkly? Is it because the genetic mutation which prevents the hair strands being produced also changes the make up of the skin causing it to become wrinkly? Or perhaps is it because hairless cats have to be cleaned all the time because there sebaceous glands deposit oils on their skin where it collects grime and dirt? Perhaps you might be good enough to leave a Facebook message below to tell me what you think!
