Ticklish cat

Ticklish cat

The concept of “ticklish cats” is work in progress. You won’t, I believe, see any hard science or facts about it. There will be suggestions and theories. I would like to join in the debate. If you click on the link above the image you will see my thoughts about it.

Essentially what I’m saying is that domestic cats can be ticklish and that it is an involuntary response between tickling an area near the spine which sends a signal to the brain to respond in what we would regard as a strange way. And they will vocalise at the same time.

The response varies tremendously between cats as it does between people. Regarding people the theory is that it is a form of social bonding or a defensive mechanism. It seems that theorising about ticklish people is also a work in progress.
