Tina Briggs rescues and rehomes 15 feral kittens and cats

Black Earth, WI, USA: with the help of colleagues Dan and Judy, Tina Briggs saved, restored to health, spayed, neutered and re-homed, fifteen feral kittens and cats who were living in the local, disused Black Earth Feedmill.

Living nearby she was previously involved in feeding them but soon realised that as the population grew that someone had to do something and she took it upon herself to be that person.

Tina says:

“..the mother and two of her female offspring all had litters last spring, at which point I had no idea how I was going to deal with this situation…We now had 12 cats, plus 2 toms hanging around.”

Well, Tina was undaunted by what must have seemed quite a mountain to climb to save these feral cats and kittens, restore them to health and find homes for them. There is a lot to do, money to spend and a lot to learn.

Tina kept 4 of the kittens. Their names are Oreo, Tyson, Misty and Xena. In order to raise some money, Tina used her imagination and created a calendar out of photographs she had taken of the kittens growing up which she marketed on Facebook.

Below is a picture by Tina of Oreo…

“This is Oreo, one of 15 feral kittens I found in town and then found homes for, last summer. He lives here with me and 4 of his siblings.”

Tina realised she needed help and initially she contacted a charitable organisation called “Angel’s Wish”, which focuses on finding homes for pets. This organisation put her in touch with Dan Johnson who is a spay/neuter coordinator at Dane County Friends of Ferals.

Through Dan Johnson, Tina Met Judy Gregg who also lived in Black Earth. Together they set about sorting out the kittens and mothers. I guess the rest is history but it is quite a story to take on this sort of responsibility and follow it through to a successful conclusion.

Her story was written about in the local newspaper and Oreo grew up under Tina’s loving care to be a beautiful cat:
