Towser was said to have caught and killed (and eaten?!) 28,899 mice during her lifetime in hunting and killing three mice a day every day during her 24 years of life or thereabouts. Truly amazing. She would not have been a mouser when she was young kitten.
She was a tortoiseshell cat owned by Glenturret Distillery, near Crieff, Tayside, Scotland.

Dr Morris in his book CATWATCHING writes that “to one authority the champion mouser on record was a male tabby living in a Lancashire factory where, over a very long lifespan of 23, years he killed more than 22,000 mice”.
Clearly his record was beaten by Towser.
There may well be an unreported better mouser somewhere.
