My short commentary on this. Yahoo Answers is not bad. There is some good advice on the site. Both these questions seem to have omitted a reference to the word ‘cat’. It is fun to surmise what was in the mind of the person posing the question.
In the first question, it is conceivable that a person does say meow to the person posing the question. Some people speak cat 😉 – for fun I mean, or to make a point. For example, if someone wanted to make the point that the person they are talking to is ‘catty’ they might meow at them to send a subtle (or less than subtle) message. Or, if a married couple are arguing and they have cats in the house, and let’s say that the wife really likes cats more than her husband, the husband might sarcastically meow at his wife to make a point.
In the second question, the word ‘cat’ has been completely omitted. Also there is an assumption that all American cats are loud! This is a strange assumption to make. I have to presume that the person posing the question is not American and he/she has a preconceived idea that American people are loud. They are not. They are no louder, in my experience, than anyone else. They may, in general, be a little bigger, but bigger is not louder.
I’ll have some fun speculating and say that the person was a guest at an American’s home and the hosts liked and looked after Siamese cats. Siamese cats, generally, have a special, loud meow. It might sound demanding to some. To others it sounds lively, vocal and enjoyable.
The best part of these dumb questions is the answers, which supports what I have written in the opening paragraph that Yahoo Answers often provides useful information. You may disagree. If so, please tell me why.
