They were wise enough to realise that the cat was trapped in a wedge-shaped opening of the window and that the way to release the cat was to push him upwards towards the wider part of the opening.
This released the cat allowing him to jump into his apartment.
The two men showed wisdom, commitment and persistence, and of course a sensitivity towards the welfare of animals and in this case what appears to be a full-time indoor domestic cat.
