“Two People Killed By Cats In Embakasi”. Embakasi is in Kenya, Africa. This is a headline from a Kenyan website – Ghetto Radio and it refers to stray domestic cats because of the way it is written and illustrated with a picture of a ginger tabby domestic cat. Don’t believe it. We can’t believe it. It has to be complete mumbo jumbo; something out of 13th century Europe when they were killing witches and their cat familiars.
Here is the text of their short post [see the post]:
“Embakasi residents on Friday held protests against the escalating cases of deaths that have occurred in River Bank area caused by marauding cats.
The residents claim that the cats have so far killed two people including a Primary School Pupil.
The residents say that one other person has been admitted at the Mama Lucy Hospital nursing the cat wounds.
Those who spoke to Ghetto Radio News claim that the cats are about five in number.
“These vampire like cats are terrorizing us, they are the size of dogs and are very poisonous. So how are we expected to live?” posed one resident.
They have however killed two and three are remaining.
They are calling on the county government of Nairobi and other animal welfare organizations to move in swiftly and salvage the situation.”

‘Vampire like cats’. The sinister connection between witchcraft and cats is hinted at in this phrase.
What’s annoying for me is that this sort of made up story (and it must be made up) encourages people in Kenya to kill cats and to fear cats and we are not referring to lions and leopards but innocent, long suffering stray domestic cats who are at the mercy of suspicious and dangerous humans.
People… can’t live with ’em, can’t live without ’em, or can we? I could live without these guys, and so could those poor animals obviously. Poisonous vampires? For human beings which have the ability to be empathetic and compassionate, how often we aren’t, especially the poorly educated. I see stuff like this getting worse and more rampant as time goes on, and I can only say I’m glad I won’t have to watch it much longer. I’ve tried in small ways to get people to be more open minded about animals, but I get called an angry troll by whose who will never change. They’ve even gone as far as getting me kicked off social media sites when I call them on their incorrect ideas about animals.
This stupid author annoyed me as you can tell. I have made some enemies too 😉
