2025 – James O’Brien, a prominent LBC radio presenter, hates Brexit so much he’ll bring up the topic and slag off Brexiteers at any available opportunity to the point where the listening public are heartily sick of the arrogant man.
He always characterises Brexit has a massive act of self-harm by the British people. And yes, it has done some harm to the economy mainly because the UK’s silly, waffling politicians (our dear leaders) are so damnably ineffectual.
They have not used Brexit to maximum effect to boost the economy.
And I’d like to loudly mention just one thing to James O’Brien which is a definitively positive aspect of Brexit although I realise that this should be a nuanced discussion e.g. see the last line below (FYI).
Brexit has allowed the PM in his sycophantic way to negotiate 10% tariffs on UK exports to the US while the EU will have to accept the burden of 15% tariffs. If we had stayed in the EU we would be subject to 15% tariffs and not 10%.
The UK tariffs are the lowest of all tariffs currently negotiated as reported by the Guardian online newspaper.
Of course O’Brien will always conveniently skirt around this point. He’ll never mention it. And if I ring up LBC to talk to him I’ll be blocked from doing so because the only callers allowed to talk with O’Brien are his devout followers.
If you are not and you do manage to get through, you’ll be roundly insulted by the presenter when you disagree with him. He hates people who disagree with him who can’t back up their views with hard facts. He’ll gleefully tear them apart in public.
O’Brien is an objectionable person. He was recently reprimanded but has kept his LBC contract. I wish he hadn’t.
FYI: Source from the Guardian: “The White HouseNotes: Rates exclude product-specific tariffs. Brazil: includes additional 40% rate linked to prosecution of Jair Bolsonaro. Canada: effective as of 1 August. China: total rate in place since 14 May. Mexico: excludes higher tariffs on certain goods. EU: tariffs range 0-15% depending on goods”
