Here is a short video of ultrasound testing for HCM and PKD at a cat show. The show was the April 2009 TICA Thunderkatz show near Oklahoma city. I must say that I was impressed by the set up of the testing process, which was provided by PetSafe Diagnostics. Firstly, it was very accessible. Any of the many breeders and visitors could present themselves at the room just off the main hall that was set up with the testing equipment.
The price, as I recall, was modest at about $80. The results were sent off for analysis, while the client received immediate feedback. And the final stage of the process would be a visit with the client’s veterinarian who would receive a copy of the test results.
I was a little surprised that there were not more people using the service, particularly Bengal cat breeders as there is, it seems to me, a considerable degree of anxiety amongst Bengal cat breeders about the prevalence of HCM in Bengal cats. Ultrasound testing for HCM and PKD at a cat show is a good idea.
