Banfield Animal Hospitals say that the fattest cats and dogs in the US are in the state of Minnesota. I have not researched why. Perhaps someone can tell me. I had thought it might be because the fattest Americans live in that state and that they had normalised fatness. They might have recalibrated it so that fat = ideal and gross obesity = fat. But this is not true. The fattest Americans generally live in the south. So please does someone have an idea why the cats of Minnesota are America’s fattest by a bit of a margin?

Aren’t Banfield one of the chain vet clinics that promote declawing of domestic cats? Over the years, there have been a few campaigns/petitions requesting Banfield stop offering declaw.
Maybe Banfield have the highest concentration of clinics in Minnesota?
Maybe Minnesota has an above average number of declawed cats.
Declawed cats often get very fat due to the pain they experience walking on amputated toe ends, so they don’t move as much. They can become agitated, sour tempered due to pain too. Cat carers likely may feed them extra as a way of ‘Cheering up’ their crippled cat.
In the light of the above, it is rather ironic that Banfield are publishing these figures don’t you think?
