Usain Bolt versus Cheetah

Nov. 2009: Usain Bolt has adopted a baby cheetah. The world’s fastest man has adopted the world’s fastest terrestrial animal. And although Usain is a phenomenal athlete and outstanding he would look simply pathetic against a cheetah. He would probably lose to the baby cheetah that he has adopted.

The baby cheetah, about the size of a large domestic cat, is called Lightning Bolt. The little baby was abandoned by its mother.

Mr Bolt can run at an approximate 30 mph maximum. The cheetah has been timed at 64 mph (official time trial). The cheetah, then, is more than twice as fast. It can travel more than twice the distance in the same time.

So over a 100 metres course assuming a flying start the cheetah would finish 50 metres ahead of Mr Bolt. He would look a bit silly. The fastest domestic cat can keep up with Usain Bolt.

Mr Bolt paid $13,500 for the cheetah, it is said, and the monthly upkeep costs $3,500.

So anyone thinking of keeping a cheetah should think twice and be very well off. Perhaps these costs are inflated slightly as some of the money is going to conservation in Kenya, the birth place of Usain Bolt.

The cheetah is endangered but classified officially as “Vulnerable” in the wild by the IUCN Red List. See cheetah habitat and cheetah facts.

Kudo’s to Usain Bolt for creating wild-life awareness about endangered “Big Cats” since any celibrity, espacially, the ‘World’s Fastest Human” would definitely influence public opinion. The Cheetah unlike other big cats are definitely rapidly on the decline due to human encroachment resulting in loss of habitata and their natural prey.Usain Bolt has definitely shown the World that he is not the fastest animal on planet Earth.
