Whiskas Cat Milk

In a recent post I wrote about how Sister Wendy, a very fine and intelligent women, had said that “cats are people“. It was an interesting thing to say and I tried to understand it in the context of her life, a reclusive nun.
Well cats are becoming people…They are growing thumbs and with thumbs they can do all sorts of things like open doors. Actually cats don’t need thumbs to open doors. A good number do it already with those dextrous toes.
The interesting thing about this cleaver advert, is that, in general, cats can’t drink cow’s milk with getting diarrhea. Some cats might not be affected but this is normally the case. It’s the lactose in cow’s milk that they find difficult to digest.
There is strong argument that people shouldn’t drink cows milk either. In my case it causes or contributes to sinus problems and resultant secondary infections after a cold. Try soya milk! Cows milk is for cows.
Back to cats..cat-people. Cats need special milk. In the old days people put out milk for cats all the time – hence this advert that assumes that cats desire milk. They do, they like dairy products. My three legged by likes cheese. Strong cheddar cheese. But cats don’t know we are giving them cows milk. They, the cats, think it is their mother’s milk. We keep them in permanent kittenhood.
I like the advert though. It connects with the fact that most cat caretakers threat their cat companions as family members but don’t always give them equal rights. Here the cat has come back demanding those rights and the milk.
