  1. That is such a cute video! She looks very close to my kitty, Rex. He taught himself to come to “Heel!” by associating the word with one of the dogs coming to me. Now he will “Heel.” when called, but only if he thinks we are going outside. The rest of the time he hides around a corner and watches.

Growing up, my mother taught one of her cats to fetch. It was really fascinating to watch.

    1. Here is Rex. We actually had a lot of snow one year and he loved it. After it melted, he looked for it for a couple of days.

I saw this video a few weeks ago, and loved it! I never realized a cat could be trained to do this, but why not? It does seem like it would take some time, patience, and favorite treats.

When I say “big stretch”, my cat lays on her back and gives me a “big stretch”, so I can rub her tummy.

Harvey, if you can carry all these things at once, you’re quite talented! I’d put them in a room, while I took those things out. I have to do that sometimes with my cat, because she waits by the door for the opportunity to run out, but she’s only succeeded once.
She lays by the door, rolls on her back, and cries like a baby. Sometimes I pick her up and hold her, other times I distract her with a toy, and sometimes I just have to put her in a room, and close the door!

There is a solution to your situation, but you may not discover it unless you’re investigative. It seems that you have “indoor-outdoor” cats, so it’s a bit different.

If your cats are missing meals because of running outside, I would think at some point, if they’re not showing signs of hunger and weight loss, they may be dining “out”.

It would be a mistake to extrapolate this specially staged video to include cats in general. Some of my cats are so dumb that they run out at night before supper if I am not very careful. By morning they are hungry and waiting to be let in, but if I am not very careful they will run out again before breakfast and disappear from sight. Of course people will say “Don’t let them out”. Have they ever tried to keep cats from flying through the door whilst carrying 2 litter boxes, a bottle of disinfectant, and a mop, or several bowls of food?
