Bengal tiger is endangered because of habitat loss and poaching. The Bengal tiger’s area of occupation is reducing year on year. There has been a 50% drop in the area where this wild cat species is found over the 10 years or so between 1997 and 2006. There’s not been a more recent evaluation of the area occupied by the Bengal tiger which I believe indicates a lack of effective conservation. The reduction in the area occupied by the Bengal tiger is a clear indication of a population decline as well hence the assessment that this animal is endangered.
