Why do cats lick you?

A cat will lick you as a sign of affection. Cats who are friendly with each other lick each other. This is called allogrooming, which is mutual grooming. It is akin to people who are friendly with each other cuddling each other and being close with each other. So if your cat licks you your cat likes you and is friendly with you.
