Why do wild cats have round pupils?

The domestic cat has super sensitive eyes and needs to reduce light input to very low levels in bright light hence the slit of a pupil and the eyelid coming down to further reduce light entering the eye. I have suggested that lions have less sensitive eyes which means that they don’t need this specialised anatomy and mechanism to reduce light levels.
