Jaguarundi in its biome

Relative to North America, Mexico is relatively rich in wild cat species. Although it has to be said that the population size and distribution of the wild cats listed will shrink over time. This is inevitable as the human population size increases as this leads to loss of wild cat habitat. This is the biggest cause of the decline in wild cat species worldwide. Eventually, this list will be outdated. What I mean is that one of these wild cats will probably be expunged from Mexico at some time in the future. If you click on this link you can see the wild cat species in all the major places on the planet.

Puma range includes Mexico

A note about the Jaguar range, Mexico 2012: This is much reduced and fragmented. In general it represents a thin strip no more than 30 kms wide that hugs the east side of the Sierra Madres Mountains of eastern Mexico (Sierra Madre Occidental and Sierra Madre del Sur) and part of the Sierra Madre Sierra Madre Oriental in the west together with a relatively large area in S. Mexico abutting Guatemala and Belize. See Jaguar Range.
