Intro: this map took quite a lot of work to create 🙂 — please ‘Like’ it if you can because it deserves to be shared and visited. Thanks a lot…
Here I map the wild cat species by country. Please click on the red placemarkers for details. This is what is called a Google fusion map. It was created from a spreadsheet. The technology is a bit fragile still (2012) but the information that you see when you click on the red markers is sound as it comes from a reliable source, perhaps the best source and certainly the most up-to-date source: IUCN Red List.
I AM TERRIBLE SORRY BUT GOOGLE STOPPED DOING FUSION TABLES WHICH MEANS THIS MAP NO LONGER WORKS AND I DID NOT HAVE THE ENERGY LEFT IN ME TO REWORK IT WITH THE DATA GIVEN TO ME BY GOOGLE.
This map is work in progress, however (update: no time to update it but it is still a great map). The intention is to add more information to the pop-up windows as soon as possible. You can see detailed range maps for the wild cat species by either clicking on the links on this map, searching using the Google custom search at the top of the page or going to the pages that provides information and pictures on the individual wild cat species.
If you search for wild cat ranges please search like this: “margay range” or snow leopard range” etc. You’ll find a page with a very accurate and up-to-date map that fleshes out the above information.
