She lives in Russia and her name is Liznya. She is a grey tabby cat. The photography of her on Instagram is appalling. My apologies to the owners but it truly is. It lacks definition and there is a huge tungsten colour cast (yellow) over almost every photograph. I have photo-edited the pages to remove it. But the worst thing is that this cat – who has an Instagram account called ‘fedupcat’ – is almost certainly the most overweight, obese cat in the world as at 2022. And the next worst thing is that the owners say that she is NOT overfed. Yes, they’ve capitalised that word. And it is no surprise that Liznya is fed up. Carrying that amount of excess weight is depressing and debilitating. It’s a downward spiral as she can’t exercise.
On the Instagram account, at the top of the page, the owners write “I am NOT overfed”. They claim that her cat became obese after she became pregnant. She is no longer pregnant as I understand it. They say that the pregnancy caused her to become obese. I have never heard of that and I don’t think anybody else has heard of it either. Domestic cats gain a few pounds during pregnancy but then it comes off after birth. The only explanation is an unexplained medical problem. However, they owners would tell us about it if that was the case. They don’t.
They’ve taken Liznya to the vet on numerous occasions to analyse her diet without any effect it seems to me. Her tummy is so big that it drags across the ground as she walks and stands. Obviously, her owners are under fire on social media for overfeeding their cat.

I am rather cynical about this. Liznya is only a celebrity on Instagram because she is grossly obese. Her owners realise this. That, is why they keep her obese. This is the only conclusion that you can draw from this horrible story. If I am wrong, please tell me.
Commenters on social media say that they are abusing their cat. I tend to agree. There is one possibility and that is that this cat has some sort of medical condition as mentioned. That is possible but the owners don’t justify the excess weight because of some medical problem.
Liznya’s owners extraordinarily insist that she is not overfed. They say that they control her diet but she continues to put on weight. In answering questions on social media, they said: “There are some misunderstandings. We have never tried to overfeed Liznya.”
And they also wrote that: “Some people wrote we do it on purpose. How do you imagine that? She even refuses to eat any other food than her diet food. It is true that our cat was pregnant and spayed after it, but we do not claim this is the exact reason for her to become obese. They have videoed themselves measuring out 29 g of Royal Canin diet food for her. That is meant to prove to the world that they are not overfeeding her.
It appears that some social media trolls have become so incensed by the story that they have placed a death wish on the owners. They don’t believe that Liznya is not being overfed.

You might be relieved to know that their owners claim that she has stabilised her weight on her current diet but is not losing weight.
In earlier photographs of Liznya she does not look obese like this. They say that she can walk and loves to play. But they also agree that she needs to be more active to lose weight. They asked that the trolls stop spreading false information. And they say that it is sad to read messages that commenters want them dead.
Having seen many pictures of truly obese cats and having seen the world record most obese cats I can honestly say that this cat is certainly the fattest domestic cat in the world as at today’s date. And it is notable that the owners have not explained why their cat is overweight. They vaguely state that it is due to her pregnancy. There is no medical or scientific reason to support that statement. It’s far more likely that Liznya is overweight because of overfeeding in order to stoke her celebrity on social media. They want to get people talking about her even if it does mean that they’re criticised. This is a minor problem.
