A young ginger tabby cat was seen swimming in the ocean, in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Alabama. We are not told how far out to sea the cat was but a fishing boat, perhaps charted from a company called Still Flyin Charters, happened to be in the same place and they noticed the cat. They say that they caught him just outside “the pass in the Gulf”. That may be just outside where the boats were docked, so not too far out to sea. They said that he was struggling to stay up. They brought him into the boat with a net, found a home for him on board and then took him back to land.

The pictures tell me that he recovered pretty quickly and suffered no lasting injuries. A guy called Steve Crews who is the owner of the charter company said that he was meowing as the crew scooped him up out of the water.
They think that he was sucked out to sea by the tide. The big question, for me, is what was he doing on the beach (Perdido Beach) and what was he doing in the sea and how did he get sucked out if there was somebody there with him? A lot of known unknowns and perhaps some unknown unknowns as well. Fortunately he recovered. I suspect that there is somebody on that beach you knows more about this.
It is even possible that someone threw the cat into the sea. You know what it’s like with cat abuse. Throwing young, unwanted cats onto busy roads is not uncommon, shocking though it is.
The charter company is based at: 28101 Perdido Beach Blvd Orange Beach, AL 36561. The information comes from their Facebook page. The photos are from that page.
