Young kitten found covered in thick tar rescued and cleaned at Animalkind

A tiny, 3-week-old, female kitten covered in tar was brought in from Athens, New York, to Animalkind yesterday. The cat rescue has a spay/neuter clinic at Warren St., Hudson, NY.

The pictures are extraordinary. The kitten was found under a dumpster with head and hind legs stuck in the gravel and tar. She was ‘caked in tar, not able to move – only cried’.

She was given fluids and a heating pad and three people worked for hours to remove the tar by bathing and cleaning as you can see in the photos.

Twenty-three hours ago Animalkind reported that she was okay having made it through the night. She has been named Lucky. There is more work to do to clean her. A mammoth task which can stress her so they provide her with breaks.

They are hopeful that she will make a full recovery. It is not thought that animal cruelty was involved.

They have raised money for her care. The latest figure I have seen is $2,381, a wonderful effort. Sixty-nine have donated.
