Kristin Valnicek is not a well established entrepreneurial multi-millionaire; the kind of rich person we regularly read about. She plays a video game called Fortnight for a living. It’s a game that has been in the news recently for being too addictive for youngsters.

Valnicek has been playing video games for a very long time (since she was 3) and has got very good at them. Her father started her on them. She won $250,000 with the celebrity partner Chandler Riggs (an actor who played Carl in The Walking Dead).

They came third in a video game tournament, the Fortnite Pro Am Charity Tournament in Los Angeles.

It’s a staggering amount of money for a woman in her late 20s or early 30s (I think she’s in her late twenties or thereabouts) to donate to an animal charity.

It’s the single largest donation that the BC SPCA has received since the manager, Sean Hogan, has worked at the shelter. That’s not surprising.

Kristin has a large following of 263,000 on Instagram on which she is called Kittyplays. She is the guardian to a couple of cats and dogs. As she grew up in Kelowna it was a no brainer to choose the Kelowna SPCA.

The amount donated represents the medical and spay/neuter budget for the entirety of 2018.

BC SPCA earned an A rating in a survey of top Canadian charities. Kelowna is a city in the south of Canada’s British Columbia province. It looks like a great place to grow up in.
