This is about a trusted 19 year old house guest who had been staying at the Clowards’ home for 6 months. His name is Jordan Linquist.
There are two cats in the family. Shadow who is black and another cat we don’t know much about. Shadow was so badly tortured by the ‘nice’ house guest through punching and shaking that the police said that if Shadow had been a child he would quite probably have been killed. That is an interesting if very sad observation; cats are more resilient than babies. The video shows the appalling behavior. I don’t expect anyone to watch it. I watched 10 seconds of it. The cat’s caretaker can’t watch it.
The baby monitor (an internal video camera to keep an eye on what is happening in the home) was set up by Shadow’s caretakers because Shadow was starting to ‘behave strangely’ and they had taken Shadow to the vets on a number of occasions.
The camera images were relayed live to Mr Cloward so he was able to watch the streamed video remotely. He saw his ‘friend’ beating up his cat and called him immediately.
Jordan answered the phone as if nothing untoward was happening. Mr Cloward, furious at what he had seen, demanded that he stop harming Shadow. Jordan’s response was (a) to shout back (b) to look for the video camera and (c) to leave the house immediately afterwards.
He was picked up by the police, arrested and is facing a felony charge of animal cruelty. He posted a $5,000 bond to be released from Utah County Jail.
I guess the moral here is that you can’t trust a friend who you have allowed to stay at your home and who is cat-sitting effectively. It makes you think.

While the Shadow’s owner may be able to forgive his “friend”, I could not, and will not. This psycho should not be near animals, children, or the elderly….or anything alive really. Creepy.
omg that poor cat, at the end when he received the phone call, he let go of the cat and walked away.. the cat just layed there.. he could have easily been killed by what he was doing.. it looked like he was slamming him on the floor too!!! Bastard!!!
How awful to have someone that you considered a friend, abuse and terrify one of your pets. I wonder why he picked on Shadow, but seems to have left the other cat Garfield alone?
I’m so pleased that he was caught in the act because he won’t be able to deny that video evidence in court. I hope the judge makes some kind of order, whereby he’s not allowed to live with, or come into close contact with animals.
