The argument is that cats are small, lightweight and athletic and therefore superior to dogs in search and rescue. Also they have the vomeronasal organ which is an an incredibly sensitive organ in the roof of the cat’s mouth which arguably makes us superior to the dark in terms of detecting certain scents and odours. The big obstacle is whether a cat can be trained to a sufficiently high standard to carry out her duties as a search and rescue animal. That is the big doubt and I’m not sure it has been tested yet.
