Why do cats dribble?

Sometimes cats dribble when they are content and purring. However, the most common reason why a domestic cat dribbles is because they have poor oral health. The cat’s owners should check their cat’s mouth to ascertain whether there is gum disease and other oral health issues.

Other reasons for dribbling might be as follows: anticipation of receiving mothers milk, chewing on electrical cable and getting a shock, heat stress, snake bite, upper respiratory infection, rabies, foreign object stuck in the mouth, anticipation of receiving an unpleasant tasting medicine, liver shunt, oesophageal disease, motion sickness, liver failure, portosystemic shunt, facial paralysis, cancer of the mouth and finally painkillers can cause drooling.
