Compact biography

Kim Tae-hyung has a stage name “V”. (Korean: 김태형; born December 30, 1995). He is 1.79 meters tall. He is a South Korean singer, actor and songwriter and a vocalist of the South Korean boy group BTS. He is very influential in South Korea and perhaps in other Asian countries. It’s interesting that he is not well known as far as I can tell in the West.

In 2018 research was carried out using Google search trends on the K-pop industry of which BTS is a major part. They concluded that “V” ranked first meaning that it was the most searched keyword for the past five years in South Korea. In another survey conducted by Gallup Korea, V was the fourth most preferred idol of 2019. He was previously ranked ninth in 2018.

Other artists have cited him as influential and a role model. The groups influenced by him include: The Boyz’s Younghoon and Hwall, Golden Child’s Jaehyun and Jangjun, MVP’s Been, Rainz’s Byun Hyun-min, Cravity’s Serim. There are many others.

Kim Tae-hyung has a baritone singing voice. He’s been praised for his vocal range and husky tone. He aspired to be a professional singer when young and at elementary school. His father supported him. Initially he took saxophone lessons in early middle school. He became a trainee for Big Hit Entertainment after a successful audition. He graduated from Korean Arts High School in 2014 and enrolled in Global Cyber University from which he graduated in August 2020.

His career is from 2013 to the present. He made his debut as a member of BTS on June 13, 2013 and made his acting debut, in 2016, with a supporting role in KBS2’s historical drama Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth. He used his real name in the credits.

As a performer, his style is known for its duality which means that he has the ability to evoke various emotions. His movements on stage are described as “precise and deliberate” (British journalist Rhian Daly, writing for NME). He has an extended Wikipedia page which I guess indicates great success.

Cats and dogs

So, what about the cat pictures on this page? There is nothing on his Wikipedia page to indicate that he likes or even loves cats and dogs. The photographs indicate that he does at least like cats or is sensitive and respectful towards them. A quick Internet search indicates that V is a pet lover. He lives with a cat named Kkanji and he has three dogs named: Soonshim, Ssyongssyong, and YeonTan.

The photographs on this page appear to come from a video of Kim Tae-hyung walking in a park (see at head of page). He walks into a covered area where a cat approaches him and sits on his lap. He responds positively and sensitively while enjoying interacting with this stray or indoor/outdoor cat. This is nice to see. Celebrities can do a lot of good for animal welfare as they are influential. They can affect the attitudes of young people who are the future. They have the power to improve animal welfare. Asia does not have a great record on cat welfare it has to be said.
