Russia thinks that furries are slaves!

NEWS AND OPINION: Russia thinks that furries (people who like to dress up as animals) as a trend is part of a Western plot to turn people into slaves! There appears to be in a drift towards more conspiracy theories in Russia since they invaded Ukraine. These are quite extreme views. By Western standards they seem like paranoid views about Western life.

The idea that furries are slaves comes from a high profile Russian parliamentary chairman who alleged that the trend of kids who like to dress up as animals has been investigated by Brussels and Washington as part of a ‘dehumanisation’ project aimed to turn people into ‘silent puppets’ according to The Times report.

He warns people that it is not a joke to dress up as a cat or other animal because behind this trend is a serious program “aimed at the rejection of humanity and everything that is human. A person must remain a person.”

Russia administrators also believe that the LGBT rights movement had been promoted by the West “with the same aim” according to The Times report. The aim then is to make people slaves. That’s my interpretation of what they think.

In fact, last year, Russia outlawed the “international public LGBT movement” as a terrorist extremist organisation!

The furries movement is in Russia as well where it is called kvadrobing. We are told that Russia’s parliamentarians are working on legislation to impose government control over kvadrobing. And one senior administrator said that if people dress up as animals in Russia they should be taken into care and their parents could face criminal charges!

A political analyst, Konstantin Kalachev question the sanity of this move. He argued that it would be very difficult to enforce such a law. For example, children dressing up as squirrels or rabbits that nursery school. Would it be illegal? Or would it be illegal for parents to call small children ‘my kitten’. He believes it’s a form of insanity to consider enacting a law to ban furries.

What I would call paranoia in Russia about Western values and culture extends beyond furries. The Times also reports that there’s been an increase in conspiracy theories in Russia. For example, the head of Russia’s National Security Council alleged that America is plotting to invade Russia because “Western elites want to relocate to Siberia should the super volcano located under Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming erupt! He believes that there will be a mass human extinction in North America and that it’s inevitable.

Why do kids like to dress as animals? Is it a rejection of humanity? It is a thought. It might just be fun or they might be a more serious issue behind it. It may be to do with stepping outside of life a child because they are anxious and unhappy. But slaves? Really, this is too much.

It does seem that some Russian politicians have become chronically paranoid about the West which sadly encourages them to keep fighting in Ukraine resulting in hundreds of thousands of Russian deaths at around 1,000 per day according to Ukrainian reports.
