Queen Elizabeth II was baffled by Trump’s rise to power

President Trump is well known for saying what a wonderful relationship he had with the former Queen Elizabeth II. For instance he said:

“I heard I was her favourite president. She would say it to a lot of people… We had an unbelievable relationship”.

But what did the Queen think of Trump? Her thoughts are in stark conflict to his. Craig Brown writing for The Sunday Times and the author of A Voyage Around the Queen, said that last week former president Obama confirmed that the queen was no fan of Trump.

She was ‘baffled’ by his rise to power. At the time he was close to being elected as president. In 2016, in conversation with Obama, she said: “Why is this person so close to running your country?”

And it was extensively reported when she was alive that she found Trump rude. In fact she called President Trump “very rude”. That snippet of information comes from an informant to Craig Brown who sat next to the former queen at lunch.

Finally, the queen remarked that she believed that Trump had “some sort of arrangement” with his wife Melania by which one presumes this refers to sleeping arrangements and an open style marriage. That’s my take.

Despite what I have written it is pretty clear that the former queen managed her relationship with Trump very well as was her known style. She was a great diplomat.

Trump added that they “had a great time together”. That’s thanks to the former queen holding her counsel. Burying her true feelings and getting along with the man who many people believe suffers from undiagnosed mental health issues concerning his character such as ADHD and narcissism.
