Buddy was lost 11 months ago in the middle of winter. I found him today

Eleven months ago from today I lost my 5-year-old black cat while moving houses. He was lost in the middle of winter. I looked everywhere for him time after time.

Buddy (Bella Day)

Today I drove past my old house just for fun. I saw a black cat!! I got out of the car and I knew it was him. I got him and put him in the car and drove home! He was still wearing the collar he had before getting lost!

I never thought I would get him back. Buddy is six now.

Today he received a flea treatment and is back to relaxing indoors. However I’m not sure he remembers how to use a cat box. He also doesn’t seem interested in any food I’ve tried to give him.

I’m not sure what he’s been eating the past 11 months, but he’s almost 17 pounds now! Could it be from eating mice and fresh meat etc?

I’m sure he got someone to feed him.. but not sure who. Old house is in a very secluded/country area. Not another house any direction for about a mile.

I had left my number with the closest houses but never got a call. The old house is still vacant.

Buddy hasn’t left the bed since 3pm, lol! I can tell he remembers my bed and is feeling very comfortable

  1. The author of the best comment will receive an Amazon gift of their choice at Christmas! Please comment as they can add to the article and pass on your valuable experience.
  2. We put food under the house at night for an opossum family. There are a few cats who show up to eat as well. I know several who do this.

  3. Thanks for your story Bella. For me there are two interesting aspects. First, when people move home their cat tends to want to stay! Or they return because it is their territory and cats don’t move territories like we move home. My cat went back to his old home range after I moved. I only moved half a mile so I found him. He is now settled in his new territory.

Secondly, you are right about the mystery of how he was fed. I think he was fed because stray cats (as he was for a while) generally become thin from a lack of food. It is hard to fathom how he was getting fed.

I am pleased you found him and that he is settled. Thanks again.
