A Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania man who pleaded guilty to feeding cats fish hooks has been given a jail sentence, The Citizens Voice reported Monday.
PoC.org has provided extensive coverage of the case and a few of those links are posted following this article. At one time there was a discussion as to whether the man was insane.
On Monday, Kenny Rowles, a Nanticoke resident, was sentenced to between nine to 23 months in jail followed by two years probation. Luzerne County Judge Michael T. Vough also ordered Rowles to pay $4,745 in veterinary fees for treatment of an injured cat named Tollie, among many others. Dr.Inayat Kathio performed emergency surgery on Tollie, where he had hooks in his mouth, tongue and throat. The hooks caused abscesses.
Let’s hope Rowles will have to serve the maximum sentence and not be released early for ‘good behavior.’ With animal cruelty on the rise, it’s imperative we send a message to abusers that abuse is NOT okay and they’ll be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
We also need to press our government representatives to enact tougher punishment for abusers because without the laws in place, animal abusers more often than not get off with a slap on the wrist.
Here are a couple of earlier articles:
Pennsylvania man, 27, who fished for cats with baited hooks pleads guilty to animal cruelty
This took a while to get to court and for Kenny Rowles to be convicted. The first time I found out who he was, was when a man called Dougie Doug said he knew who did it and he said so on Facebook. Here is the post:
It was one of the most notorious examples of reported cat abuse in 2019. Note: if you get this far in the post, I have not published the photo of one of the cats because I don’t believe it is necessary. It is too ugly and sad and Google does not like these sorts of pictures. I hope you are okay with that.
Elisa,I am NOT okay with that! Google does not, will not control what I can and cannot see or read! You’re a female and, therefore, controlled by Google. Maybe afraid of Fakebook closing your account? “Too ugly and sad…” I’ll determine what it too ugly and sad for me to see. Google? Give me a break! What is really sad is the fact that Google runs your life. Google? We see much worse on TV and in the movies all the time. Mafia members with their face blown off, murdered Jews in Poland, even what a cowboy looked like after an Indian has scalped him. If you can’t handle it, don’t look or change the channel or avoid that movie. Google?
Why do you feel it’s up to YOU to save us from actual photographs of this kitty? Google? Maybe if more people like you didn’t blame Google for everything, and maybe if more people actually saw the results of what this freak did to cats, maybe more people will start to care! Oh, I forgot. We’re in America. Google?
Just as it’s up to you to decide what you do or do not want to look at, it is up to Elisa to decide what she does or does not want to post. I kind of wonder about the character of someone who wants to look at photos of murdered cats.
America is one of the WORST countries for animal cruelty/abuse/killing. WORST. Starts with small kids allowed to abuse the family’s pet, then works it way up to more serious abuses, then finally to horrible torture killings of people. Jeffrey Dahmer? Kids get caught are are NOT punished. If a kid does this while a parent(s) is in the military, the PARENT is punished and demoted. Our society must change – quickly!
Hopefully this freak will be “abused” while in prison. There will be people waiting for him to be released back into society. He might be safer IN prison!
