Clear reason why shooting of Renee Good was NOT in self-defence

It’s extraordinary to me and to millions of others that the ICE officer who shot and killed Renee Good claims that he acted in self-defence. This was a straight act of murder in my considered view because there is no other way to assess what happened.

And the reason for that clear assessment is that this could not have been an act of self defence by the ICE officer. And the reason for that assessment is that he shot Renee Good through the driver’s window. In other words he was at the side of the vehicle when he shot her. It was at very close range and apparently he shot three times into her head

To be clear, he was not in front of the vehicle when he shot her. He did not shoot through the vehicle’s windscreen. It was through a side window and therefore he was positioned to the side of the vehicle which means that he was not in danger of being hit by the vehicle.

And when you see the video you see that Renee Good turned to the right to avoid the officer it seems and to drive down the road. At the same time the officer sidestepped to the left as we view the video (to his right) to avoid the vehicle. It was a simple act and easy to do. In doing so he positioned himself out of harms way of the vehicle hitting him.

A split second later he shot her through the side (driver’s) window. That’s the end of the argument. There is no more to add. It is clear cut and it is quite shocking to me that this has been discussed as a possible act of self-defence. It is lies.

It is also shocking to me that legal experts are chewing over this as if it’s very complicated. How can it be complicated? The video is crystal clear in supporting an assessment that the officer murdered this woman. Let’s call it out for what it is.

I know it can be difficult for a law enforcement officer to behave sensibly under pressure. I know that they have to make split-second decisions. And in doing so they can make the wrong decision. But these ICE offices have a rulebook to follow governing their behaviour.

Under the circumstances that we see in the video they are instructed not to shoot the driver but to get out of the way as I understand it. That’s common sense anyway. Because if you shoot the driver as we see, the car is instantly out of control and can ram other cars and pedestrians. In this instance the car rammed other cars that were parked by the side of the road.

That could have caused further injury even serious injury. As it happens it caused criminal damage. That means the officer concerned should be charged both with murder and criminal damage.

But the car could have run onto the pavement (sidewalk in America) and hit a pedestrian and killed them as well. What this officer did was entirely unacceptable. It’s worse than that. It is horrific.

And then we have the president of United States and his vice president declaring to the world that the officer’s actions were justified. In doing so they besmirched the reputation of this woman. They insulted her soon after her bloodied body was taken to a morgue. This is outrageous behaviour and deeply troubling or should be for the American people. And indeed for the rest of the world.
