Coco

Coco

I have always wanted to have a cat. I visited several animal shelters to find just the right cat. I knew I wanted an adult, calm, pretty, cuddly, cat with a sweet temperament.

The six year old cat I adopted had the deepest chocolate color I had ever seen. Her tail has a white tip on it and her eyes are both yellow and blue whenever she is very relaxed. I am not sure if she is really a York Chocolate cat, but she does have some of the breed characteristics.

Coco has been a very good companion cat.

Although she likes to be near me and will sit in my lap to be brushed and cuddled, she is not extremely clingy and will sit at my feet or near me in a room observing everything or will go into another room and amuse herself.

She is very vocal in the morning, then for the rest of the day she is very quiet as she moves through the house to keep up with whatever I am doing. When I talk to her she responds with either a meow or a chirp.

She also has trained me to know when she wants to be picked up or brushed by the different tones of her meow or chirp. Although she eats dry food, her favorite treat first thing in the morning and late in the evening is a saucer of cream.

I was surprised to find out that she likes to play catch and will fetch her toys whenever she is in a playful mood.

Coco also understands more commands than I thought a cat was capable of. (She responds to the commands: sit, stay, speak, come, stop, get down, yes, and no.) She is both sweet and smart. Attached is a picture of Coco.

Good Question: Tiffany or York Chocolate?
by: John

This comment is in response to Allan Guthmiller's July 10, 2010 question and comment. It is interesting that you think my cat Coco might also be a Tiffany. When I looked at the pictures of a Tiffany, she certainly does look like one, too.

In answer to your question, about whether or not her eyes are gold colored, yes, they are gold in color and at times the pupil is blue in the center and sometimes it is black in the center and either time the pupil is surrounded by the gold color. Also, her bushy, plumed tail has a white tip on it. Her fur is very soft and silky to the touch and she loves to be petted and of course I love petting her. York or Tiffany ?
by: Anonymous

Hello John,

I enjoyed your story very much about Coco because is sounds almost identical to the traits of our cat, Miss Kitty, which is a Tiffany. Does Coco have golden eyes ? If so, she might actually be a Tiffany. I can't quite tell by your photos, but they due have a slight gold tint. I saw a York Chocolate kitten at the animal shelter 7-19-10 with hazel eyes, the same as in Michael's article on this particualr breed.

Hope all is well for you and Coco.

Best regards,

The Coco Cattitude

Thank you for posting the entry about my cat Coco. She has a lot of "cattitude". I have taken pictures of her and added captions to them.

It is a work in progress entitled, "The Coco Cattitude." I would like to let it be viewed and enjoyed.

Another amazing shelter cat
by: Finn Frode, Denmark

Hi John. Thank you for adopting 6 year old cat. Most people go for cute kittens, but with a mature cat you get a fully developed personality and a cat adjusted to living with humans in a home. Somehow the cat ended up in a shelter, but that wasn't the cat's fault for sure!
You struck gold finding the cat that was perfect for you - and Coco found the new home she deserved.
I adopted my Snow White 1½ ago and every day with her has been a joy. You can read about her on my page 'Don't Forget the Elderly Shelter Cats'. And there are many more great cats like Coco and her just waiting for other good people to adopt them....

Great name and a fine cat. Coco seems to be a very well rounded cat in terms of personality. Thanks for showing her to us.
