“We know that your pets are your family and we take their safety very seriously…”
In this short video a Phoenix firefighter hands over a grey cat that he has rescued from an apartment fire to his/her grateful owner who immediately places him into a cat carrier. It is relatively undramatic. There are no tears or cries of joy. But there is gratitude and relief that her cat is safe once again.
PLEASE GIVE THE VIDEO A LITTLE WHILE TO LOAD AS IT IS AN EMBED FROM FACEBOOK. IT IS WORTH WAITING FOR 🙂

It is the first time I have seen an actual handover of a rescued cat to their owner by firefighters.
Without being overly critical, the firefighter is handling the cat in a less than ideal way. There is no support for the lower part of the cat’s body. It is a bit strange to see this because it is obviously better to support the cat by providing a platform for the hind legs to rest on. Anyway I am being too picky. This is another great cat rescue. One more feline life saved by firefighters; public servants.
There are many examples of firefighters saving the lives of cats. Sadly many are killed in house fires while their owners escape. There is a question mark over that statistic. A common cat news story is the loss of life of a pet in a fire. It bemuses me somewhat as to how it happens. Some firefighters have specialist oxygen masks for cats and dogs because smoke inhalation is a common cause of injury and death for pets in house fires.
