A cat in Russia is being hailed a heroine after being credited with saving the life of an abandoned baby.

Masha is a long-haired tabby, who is as intelligent as she is beautiful. Someone recently abandoned a baby in the cold streets of Russia. The infant, determined to be under three months old, was left in a cardboard box at the foot of the stairs in an apartment building where Mashla likes to sleep. Whoever dropped off the infant also left a little hat, some baby food and a few diapers.

Masha’s mothering instincts took over when the cat saw the baby sleeping in her box, and climbed in, curling up close to keep the little one warm. Here’s a short video of Masha
Not only did Masha share her kitty body heat with the wee one, she also meowed to get the attention of someone who could help. Since Masha is a community cat, looked after by the local residents, the person who answered her cry for help was stunned to find the cat in the box with a baby. Obninsk city resident Irina Lavrovan told Central European News how she found the two curled up together in the stairwell.

βShe is very placid and friendly, so when I heard her meowing, I thought that perhaps she had injured herself. Normally she would have come and said hello to me. You can imagine my shock when I saw her lying in a box next to a baby.β
According to a hospital spokesman the baby had only been out in the cold for a few hours and wasn’t physically harmed from being abandoned. Now Masha is being called a hero, and the neighborhood residents in charge of her care are rewarding the cat with her favorite food.
An investigation is being conducted to find the parents of the baby.
We hear so many stories of dog heroes, it’s nice to see a cat getting recognition for saving a life.

Commercial is key to surviving in today’s media rat race. I try to use a title that’s close to what the news wires are using or to have one so catchy people have to read the story. I write simple, keeping it on a level a 5th grader can understand. Nothing is worse than reading big words you have to use a dictionary for to know what’s being said. And I don’t always use the AP format for important info first. I did more of a storyweaving on this one where I read several articles and combined them. The video is what makes it better than most other coverage of this cat. I found a few that couldn’t be embedded, but this one is the best available that was in English. Plus I have a team of networkers. It’s not just me π
Sounds good to me.
You wouldn’t have recognised mine as the same story π . Mine was really about cat behavior rather than a news story. You did a better job. More commercial π .
At my house if a cat wants in a box and another cat is in the box, then the first cat just has to move over. Perhaps Masha decided it was her box and she was gonna lay in it no matter what-baby or no baby. If the baby wasn’t crying, then the baby may not have been too cold, and Masha may have enjoyed some infant heat as well as giving some back to the baby.
I never even saw your version. I’m so out of touch with the internet it’s not even funny. I can’t even get around to commenting on comments anymore. Can you help me find a good cloning program? I need help! Giggles…
Thanks Elisa. Your version is better than mine and you’ll network it far better than I ever could.
You found the video too. I couldn’t find one. My article questioned whether the cat deliberately saved the child or intended to help the child.
I wondered if the cat was trying to keep warm. I think she was trying to help the child and possibly keeping warm at the same time. A mutual benefit.
