Hi....My name is Alan Edwards. I am a Southern Africa Cat Council "all-breed" judge and also "a-b" for the World Cat Federation. I have been breeding Brits since 1969 first in the UK and, since 2004, in South Africa.

In 2001 I sent a female British Blue to a great friend of mine, the late Iaine Taylor of the "Jasharvin" cattery. She became Supreme Champion Taliesin Xanthia Mavis of Jashrvin and took the title of Cape Top Cat in 2004.

We are now breeding from her grandson, Supreme Champion Jasharvin's Fyvie Castle who was 6th Best Cat (all-breeds) and Best British Shorthair in the SACC Cat of the Year finals last year in Johannesburg. The photo is by our great friend and photographer Sarah Thexton who is also a Brit enthusiast.

"Fiver" is a great pudding of a cat with a wonderful nature and a "foot fetish"! As South Africa has very few British Shorthair breeders, we are working on an outcross programme and "Fiver" has once again proved his potency by becoming the father of a lovely litter of six babes just three weeks ago (12.03.2009) one of which, a Blue Spotted lass, is not going anywhere!

Hi Alan,

I know like me you are a fan of the Hunmar lines.
I have Ch & Pr Hunmar Steamonbaby a younger sister to your Dolly Blue, well Maeve is still going strong she will be 19 on her next birthday.

All the cats here at Fergan go back to Maeve, what a foundation queen she has been, Mary always said you must get your foundations right before you can build anything !

Was at the Supreme at the weekend with Jean Townsend & we both had a good day - you can't keep these Hunmar lines down.

I purchased a kitten (Female British Sorthair Blue Blotched Tabby) in Oct 2009 from Alan Edwards & David Hessey and what a beaut she is. Her colours are amazing, this cat is unbelievable, intelligent and amazing. Her father is Sup Champ & WCF Int Ch Jasharvin's Fyvie Castle NQ British Shorthair Blue and her mom is Violets Felicity British Shorthair Variant Black Mackerel Tabby. If anybody is wanting to purchase a kitten, i recommend try Alan & David.

I was fortunate enough to have bought a British Blue from the late Iaine Harper in 2003, Sire Jasharvin's Rosings The Full Monty and Dam Jasharvin's Taliesin
Xanthia Mavis. Braveheart was a magnificent male speciman who unfortunately passed away this month due to cancer. I am looking for another male from this lineage as he was huge weighing in at 12kg. I also have a female from a different breeder, who although is beautiful, is very small. Please can you put me in touch with a breeder who possibly inherited Iaine's cats when he passed away.

    • Difficult because South Africa is not a great place to find purebred cats (as far as I know). I doubt whether there is a Brit SH breeder South Africa. There was (or is?) one: Feline Magic. Anyway you may have to buy from a breeder abroad (UK would be a good start) who agrees to ship to South Africa. Some breeders do this. Good luck.

      The cat fancy is still a Western thing.
