Cat roof-crashes the Olympic Games in Sochi

This cat did not gatecrash the Olympic Games but arrived via the ceiling. This news story may indicate that the facilities at the Winter Olympics are not as robust as they might be.

The Alder Arena Skating Center which seats 8000 people and which cost $30 million to construct was damaged by what appears to be a black cat that falls through the ceiling.

Perhaps the cat was initially in a ventilation shaft above what appears to be ceiling panels or perhaps the cat was simply walking along the other side of the ceiling panels.

Perhaps this cat was finding a warm place within the complex. In any event he or she fell through the ceiling which the video clearly shows.

The video was captured by security cameras and it was taken some time before the games opened.

However, as mentioned, it does raise some questions about the build quality of these games, which are the most expensive on record, either winter or summer.

I feel sorry for the cat who had a nasty fall from quite a height. I hope he or she was treated humanely and decency if she was captured. I would have some doubts about that, regrettably.

  1. Michael,

Awwww too bad the video was removed since that YouTube account was terminated. I wonder what the reasoning was for that decision.

  2. Exactly Dorothy. I’m glad this one excaped the cull before the games. I hope he got away safely. I would imagine so.

By the way – you are so very lucky to have such a wonderful photo of you and Marvin. It’s truly a great photo in all senses.

  3. I forget to state the obvious: the need to obliterate anyone [translated: cats and dogs and homeless people] who take up space in the public (mind’s) eye when we have more important agenda.

  4. Thanks, Michael. That link to your original concern, says it all. This is what apparently goes on in every country that feels self-conscious about their gov’t.

  5. Yes, Michael. I agree 100%. This cat [my point] probably did NOT escape being affected by the poison. This was in the news in Sochi, right? Do we all know how that cat is doing? (thanks for replying. hope that Charlie is doing well 🙂 )
