In order to undermine what appears to be current, quite successful negotiations between Zelensky and Trump in Miami on ending the Ukrainian war, Vladimir Putin is lying about a Ukrainian 91-drone attack on one of his palatial residences. Conveniently, there was no damage to the mansion because all 91 drones were shot down! Highly convenient as there is no evidence (because Putin can’t produce verifying evidence).
Putin mentioned the drone attack to Trump in a 2-hour telephone conversation before Zelensky met up with Trump to try and thrash out an agreement to bring peace (also conveniently timed). When Putin suspects that peace talks are going well he needs to undermine them because he does not want the war to end.
He can’t go on finding feeble excuses to tell Trump why any agreement that Trump has brokered cannot work for Russia. He can’t go on doing this because as we know it looks very much like Putin does not want peace. Therefore he has to find a more convincing reason why the talks won’t work.
And in this instance he has dreamt up the idea that if Ukraine is trying to destroy one of his personal homes then it must affect the peace talks. This is because by implication Zelensky is trying to kill Putin. It’s an attempt at an assassination. That is what is being hinted at.
And it is reported that when Putin told Trump this, the President of the United States was sympathetic. He appears to have believed it hook line and sinker. I hope not because it is clearly a lie. Putin likes to play games. He lies perpetually. His Foreign Minister, Lavrov, always backs up his lies because he is a serial liar himself.
The pair of them like to play games in all kinds of ways to undermine evidence and facts. To undermine attempts to come to an agreement on peace. And this is the latest idea.
As Trump is very sympathetic towards Putin it is possible that Trump himself might pick up on this lie and use it himself to harangue Zelensky and to drive Zelensky into agreeing something with which she is highly uncomfortable.
Zelensky has explained that Putin is lying and I hope that anybody with common sense can see through this. It’s very much in line with the modus operandi of Putin and his henchmen.
As soon as Putin passed this information on to Trump, one of his inner circle henchmen was pronouncing to the world that this drone attack on Putin’s home must undermine the peace talks. It must affect how that these talks take place. The point there is that he is saying that the talks must now go more in favour of Russia which of course will not be acceptable to Zelensky and once again lead to a breakdown.
The truth is that all talks on this matter by these very busy leaders must necessarily be a waste of time because one party, the Russians, simply do not want to participate with honesty and integrity. Putin is happy to continue the war for as long as he can.
He is mortgaging the future of Russia when perpetuating this war. It’s being funded by Russian oil and gas. The sale of oil and gas should be used by Russia to build infrastructure to make the country secure in the long-distance future. That’s because oil and gas will run out and there must come a time when the country has a different, more diverse source of income but Putin is totally ignoring this in his desperate, manic desire to expand Russia to the days of the Russian Empire as he has aspirations to preside over the old Russia with satellite countries firmly in its grasp.
He’s an old school politician harking back to the days of Stalin. The problem is that Trump wants to do a deal with Putin to the make money for himself and America going forward.
Trump denigrates Zelensky and sees him as a little man who is badly dressed. Trump doesn’t like Zelensky. And we know that Trump puts a lot of emphasis on whether he likes or dislikes someone judging by the fact that he is always talking about whether a person is nice or not or whether he gets on with them or not. This is irrelevant to doing business but for Trump it is highly relevant.
It’s very sad that there is so much disinformation in the world today and it appears that most of it comes from Russia and this latest wheeze is yet another example. We hope Trump believes Zelensky rather than Putin as the former is honest while the latter is certainly is not.
