CCTV shows landlord shooting his tenants’ cat while they’re on vacation

Warning: it is unpleasant but all you see is the landlord with a hand gun pointing at the cat. You don’t see the cat. I won’t show the video as Google does not like them (and I hate them). But I believe people should be aware of these events. People learn by them. If you cover them up and never mention them no one learns about these potential dangers. Cat caregivers should be constantly alert to potential danger for themselves and their cat companion. Danger is lurking all around us.

MORGANTON, N.C. (WTVD) — A landlord in western North Carolina faces criminal charges after surveillance video caught him kicking and shooting a tenant’s cat. Report from Eye Witness 11 ABC News.

The cat’s owner said that their landlord broke into their home when they were away.

Landlord Dustin McCormack stated that he has never allowed his tenants to keep cats. He also mentioned that his intention was not to harm the cat but merely to frighten it away.

“It was locked in the house for probably two days unsupervised. It just peed all over everything. I go to my houses for random checks all the time. They were using a room. The house wasn’t theirs.” – Landlord

The cat’s owners are in shock.

“I kind of get like I was having a panic attack with what had gone on because it was so cruel. I feel like he should be charged for everything that he’s done.” – Harmony Chizem and Preston Finley, the cat’s owners.

Dustin McCormack has indeed been charged:

  • Breaking and entering
  • Felony cruelty to animals

Some blame must go to the owners. The cat was abandoned in their home and was clearly anxious and was suffering from separation anxiety causing peeing inappropriately. This wound up the landlord. I am not defending him. He is an alleged criminal but I think the owners could have done better.

  2. We do not know the cat was peeing everywhere we have only the land lord saying that. Many people go away for the weekend and leave their cats with plenty of food and water. He may own the property but there are laws against illegal entry into a home someone is renting. He had no right to kill the poor kitty, I do not care what the kitty was doing, that’s why they charge big deposit fees for!!!

        • Yeh, cats don’t rate very high in the minds of police officers. Nearly all of them prefer dogs and some police officers persecute decent God-fearing female volunteers doing TNR work, which is a manifestation of misogony. Fairly common among police officers.
