Owners That Look Like Their Cat

I know it's a dog! There are no images of people looking like their cats.

I know it's a dog! There are no images of people looking like their cats.

Are there such people as owners who look like their cats? I ask because we all know about the dog owners who look like their dogs. They are a little bit famous.

It is not always apparent and not always the case but we do get dog owners who look like their dog.

I don't think we get owners who look like their cats. Or if we do it is a very small percentage of cat caretakers; much less than is the case with dogs. If I am correct; why is this?

I am going to speculate - a pure guess.

Dogs have been domesticated much longer than cats. As I recall the dog first became domesticated about 12,000 years ago compared to the cats 5,000 to perhaps 9,000 years ago.

That means there is been a grater time during which breeding of dogs has taken place.

And breeding leads to the creation of new breeds and a gradual differentiation in appearance between the breeds. Breeders like to clearly distinguish one breed from the other for common sense reasons.

This long term selective breeding program by dog breeders over a very long time - longer than is the case for cat breeds - has resulted in a huge range of dog types and appearance. There are about 493 dog breeds. There are about 70 mainstream cat breeds.

The appearance of the various dog breeds is very distinct, which allows owners to choose a dog that looks like themselves. This may, and probably does, happen inadvertently but the choice is there to do it.

The domestic cat in contrast does look different, breed to breed, but thankfully in general (except for the extreme cat breeds) they all look pretty similar except for the hairless cats. The fact that they do look fairly similar is not necessarily something that pleases the breeders but it is a fact.

That is one reason why owners don't look like their cats.

I believe that there is another reason. Dog owners are pack animals like their dogs. They want to be part of a team and when an owner looks like his dog he is wearing the team colours!

Cat caretakers by contrast are more independent minded. They are more likely to be individuals and therefore less inclined to look like their cat companion. To use a sporting context cat owners are tennis players and dog owners are footballers (soccer).

What do you think? Are there owners that look like their cat?

Apr 02, 2011 We look alike
by: Ruth (Monty's Mom)

Monty and I look alike in one way, and it's not a good thing. We both could stand to lose some weight. I have very poor eating habits. I don't know what a portion size is (well, I know, but who wants to only eat that little bit?) and I love to snack. So when Monty and I are home we snack. If I go for something he wants a treat too. If he's meowing for food I give him a little and have a bite of something myself.

Jeff took a little movie of Monty and I playing outside with a fishing pole type toy. (I eat poorly, but I do like to exercise and I try to make sure Monty stays active too.) It's a cute video of a chubby little cat jumping sometimes four feet in the air while a middle aged obese woman, who moves pretty good for someone that big, runs and turns, enticing the cat to run and jump.

Monty's toy is a squirrel's tail attached to a long stick with some yarn. (One of my husband's friends hunts, so he gave us some squirrel tails for Monty.) Monty absolutely loves them. It's like live prey for him. He'll probably trim down from all the running and jumping. I was thinking about what Jeff could attach on there that would motivate me to run and jump like that and lose some weight. I'm thinking a Twinkie would probably work.

by: Elisa

I once told a cat hating man that I hope he'd come back as a rat in his next life! I used to look like my Cocker Spaniel Bama. People used to see us together and every now and then someone would comment on my hair color and I'd tell them Cocker Spaniel Red. I looked a lot like that dog. When my hair isn't dyed I now look like my dog Dreyfuss. Unfortunately at this point we're seeing which of us can age the fastest and I'm afraid I'm winning.

I wonder if he has come back! It proves a person can look like a cat.

I think people with expensive houses and beautiful interiors and who are very concerned over their appearance keep cats that are fluffy and purebred etc.

So there is some connection between how we look and how cats look sometimes.

I don't know any owners who look like their cats but I do know that one of our cats, Walter, looks very much like our late father !
Honestly, you'd have to have known our dad to see it but Babz and I both think he's come back as a cat because he used to say he hated them.

Watch out any cat abusers, there is Karma !
