In general – there are many exceptions – humans don’t like their anatomy. Infographic. by Michael Broad

Is there any connection between the infographic and cats?! Well, I believe that there is. It’s about sterility. A lot of what we do to ‘improve’ our anatomy is to make it more sterile (cleaner). We don’t like parasitic ‘bugs’ (microbiome) living on our skin and in our gut and this affects our homes sometimes as we can make them sterile too by which I mean too sheer – modern looking without enough nooks and crannies for cats to make dens in.

The classic, sheer, modern home is not ideal for the domestic cat. Yes, homes should be free of fleas and one way to achieve that it by removing carpets and keeping the place clean but there needs to be – to use the often-quoted words by cat experts – ‘environmental enrichment’ for domestic cats. The home needs to be as much for cats as for humans and cats are not into the modern, minimalistic look.

An extension to the argument that humans don’t like their anatomy is that humans don’t like their behaviour either. I am generalising of course. But if it is true, it would explain the self-destructive nature of human behaviour such as destroying the planet which sustains us. The process is almost nihilistic. It is as if humankind wants to self-destruct by destroying the lump of rock that keeps us alive.

Global warming is at heart a symptom of self-disgust. Correct? Or a bizarre suggestion? Not sure. It might be a crazy idea but sometimes it sure as hell seems as if it is true.
