Cat breeders have been more successful in matching a domestic cat to the lion than to the tiger. The Toyger (toy tiger) is a designer cat breed. The reason for its existence is to match the tiger in appearance. To bring the tiger into the home in miniature but safer! The Maine Coon was never meant to match the appearance of the lion until one breeder, whose name I don’t know decided, it seems, to have a go. They came up with a great result as it happens. This is because the Maine Coon (MC) lends itself to looking like a lion! Well it does…mainly because of the super strong muzzle, the bit of anatomy that is on the front of the face. In extreme bred Maine Coons this immediately looks like the muzzle of the lion. It’s uncanny.
And, of course, the MC has a mane of sorts; their ruff. Okay, it’s not really a mane but it gives the MC a hint of lion. So I thought I’d match them up in a couple of montages to prove the point:
