UPDATE: Sage has tragically passed away. Today around 4:45 pm, he quickly went downhill and AVC performed CPR to do everything they could to save him.

The Humane Society of Utah’s mission is to eliminate pain, fear and suffering in all animals, so when we heard about the heinous torture poor little Sage endured and the suffering inflicted, our hearts broke.

We thank The Humane Society of Northern Utah for taking donations to cover medical expenses for Sage. Although the Humane Society of Northern Utah is a separate organization from The Humane Society of Utah, we came together for the same cause. Any donations that HSNU received will pay for the care given and a respectful cremation, with any extra going to care for other deserving animals in need.

Thank you to Advanced Veterinary Care (AVC) for treating Sage. We know they did everything possible to ease his pain.

Our deepest condolences to Sage’s family and friends. We will never forget Sage and will not give up trying to find the culprit and bring them to justice.”

A heartbreaking video telling what happened to Sage can be found by clicking here. VERY VERY GRAPHIC. Six-year old Sage had been fighting for his life after China Cassel’s sister found him Wednesday morning. Last Saturday Sage never came home. He somehow managed to crawl home (he couldn’t walk or meow) and the family quickly saw the most horrific abuse imaginable as he dragged himself through the doggy door and collapsed.

Man living with cat’s owner in family home tortured Sage the cat

Someone had taken Sage, who suffered blunt force trauma, burns and cuts all over his body, smashed paws, and glue all over his body. He may also have had glue injected into his body. His whiskers were cut, his fur shaved and his ribs snapped.

The Humane Society of Utah originally planned to use donations to treat Sage, but when he passed away they decided to contribute the funds to the reward to help catch his killer.

Sage lived in Clearfield, Utah and the Humane Society of Utah hopes the reward will encourage Davis County Animal Services to obtain information that will help them charge the monster responsible.

Please share with everyone, especially with those in the Clearfield, Utah area

According to the Utah State Criminal Code, the intentional torture of a companion animal, including “inflicting extreme physical pain … in an especially heinous, atrocious, cruel or exceptionally depraved manner,” is a third-degree felony.

Money talks and someone is likely out there bragging about how Sage was tortured.  Donations are tax-deductible. Click here if you want to contribute to the reward. If for some reason it is not claimed, the funds will roll over to assist in future cases of animal welfare.

Kiwanis Park in Clearfield Utah is where a candlelight memorial for Sage will be held Sunday at 4 pm. Please, please come and support Sage. It would be an honor to have Sage’s Facebook support team come and make his name shine brighter than ever. If you choose to come please bring your own candle. You can pick some up at the dollar store or nearest super market. Sage has an army of supporters out to catch his killer, but in the meantime, we need to honor his life.

  1. Yes, we hope the monster is on the police database or they can take DNA from the suspect who I believe lived in the house where Sage was tortured.

  2. Incredible! I pray that even two viable human cells appear on the collar. But then, I assume there would have to be DNA belonging to the monster already in a database… unless a judge could order a DNA test performed on the person of interest.

Because there is “no honor among thieves”, I pray whoever knows who committed this horrific act opts for the hefty reward.

  3. This case is languishing in the mire. No one took the reward. The police have abandoned it and a private investigator is messing around. So far no one has been caught and DNA tests are being carried out on Sage’s collar. People sort of know who might have done it but have no proof.

  4. So what is the current status of this case? With a reward that great, I can scarcely believe someone has not been turned in yet.

  5. I’m very sure my phone messenger will go ping ping ping ping ping once an arrest is made. I’ll be keeping an eye out, especially since I won’t be sleeping much for the next week or so with this tough work schedule.
