Phew…I’ve started with that word because this is the 14th inherited Peke-face Persian disease I have explained in an infographic. I have come to the end. 😊😢. Click this link to see them all!
It is sad, though, that I feel a duty to create these infographics on behalf of the many thousands of Peke-face Persian cats suffering as I type this in many homes mainly across the United States where the world’s premier cat fancy association, the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) presides over this scandal.
Yes, I have used a strong word but it is factually true. It is a scandal that a popular cat breed has 16 different inherited disease arising out of extreme selective breeding for the flat-face and rounded/wide head.
Yep, I know I have gone on and on about this but I feel a duty to hammer it home. There is no other way to try and achieve change. A change to the breed standard which would, over years, fix the problem.
Sadly, the CFA does not see this as a problem. They want this. Strange right? To want to create cats that are inherently unhealthy and will be in distress for their entire lives as a consequence when it need not be like that.
But it has gone on for decades. Nothing has changed. Change is needed.
I favour the campaigning style of PETA. I know PETA has detractors. Those who literally hate the organisation but I love them because they hit hard. They have to hit hard to effect change as no one listens unless you make a noise.
The modern human is more interested in frivolous celebrity news and scandal and outrageous videos of all kinds than animal welfare which is too boring for most. Sad again.
‘Noise’ is one letter away from ‘nose’ and it is the distorted nose of the Peke-face Persian which is at the centre of the trouble around this breed’s nasal congestion.
