Is this a copycat bow and arrow shooting of a cat in Abu Dhabi? The Kirsten Lindsey case is internationally notorious. The world knows about her shooting of a cat in her backyard with an arrow.
We never hear of anything to do with domestic cats in Abu Dhabi. Then today we have a outdoor domestic cat being shot with an arrow. It is a shock.
The cat’s owner, Mrs Bezuidenhout, is shocked too. She lives at Al Raha Gardens. She rents a home there. The other tenants are outraged.
The cat’s name is Jack. He is a young ten-months-of-age. He is described as a white Arabian Mau. This is a rare breed of cat from the UAE.
No one has come forward as a witness. It is believed that Jack was shot while walking along a wall. He stumbled into a neighbour’s home and collapsed on the living room floor.
“When they noticed the cat was very seriously wounded, they started crying and screaming. My wife also started screaming and crying,” said the neighbour.
The neighbour took Jack to an Australian Veterinarian Hospital. The arrow had crushed Jack’s thorax and shattered some vertebrae, they said. Will he make a full recovery?
Treatment cost Dh2,200 ($599 USD). Dare I say it: that was cheap by comparison to USA and UK prices.
Animal abuse like this is a crime in Abu Dhabi carrying a jail term on conviction of one year, maximum and a fine of Dh5,000 to Dh20,000.
I am surprised this form of animal abuse has happened in this Middle Eastern state. However, apparently it is commonplace. A survey concluded that more than 75% of residents of Abu Dhabi thought animal cruelty was common in the state. The survey said it more common than in the West. There appears to be a problem with children abusing animals because of a lack of parental guidance.

Exactly the way I’d feel under the same circumstances.
A citation? I don’t normally condone or even speak of violence especially online but if some kid or anyone ever shot my cat they better be prepared for a severe beating and an enemy for life.
Gawds blood I wish that KL would get an arrow in her neck, she has started a trend and I fear we will see more cases like this!
my god, Eva, THAT is outrageous! THAT is what happens when parents dont teach their kids the value of life, or at least the value of someone elses property. though i hate 2 look at it in THAT manner. sometimes THAT is as good as u can get. i hope ur pets r better now. i wonder how ur neighbor would feel if u shot their kid with that same pellet gun?
As to other objects being shot at cats>My neighbor shot both my cats in the hips and side with a plastic pellet gun. This incident took place in Jacksonville;Florida. The young shooter , in his teens , used my pets for target practice.Tiny plastic pellets penetrate the cats tender skin and are hard to spot. His parents did not compensate for the medical bills; however I called the police and they gave him a citation.

Michael, can you share why you’re surprised at this form of animal abuse in Abu Dabhi? I realize that bows and arrows aren’t the usual way cats are abused. Is that what you mean by this “form”?
